Rory joined FSA in January 2010. He matriculated in 1992 from Westville Boy’s High School and went on to study his Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Agricultural Engineering through the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. He spent his first year out of university working for the Agricultural Research Council in Pretoria where his main role was the team leader for the Mobile Irrigation Evaluation Unit. Rory spent a lot of time evaluating a broad variety of irrigation systems and writing reports on the findings. He then moved closer to the home front and joined UniTrans Sugar, a sugar cane hauling and agricultural machinery company where he was involved in their research and development activities in a few of the Southern African countries.
In 2001 Rory moved up to Pietermaritzburg in KZN where he joined Irrigation & Drainage Services CC. His role was to establish client requirements, perform GPS surveys, complete irrigation designs, costing’s and quotes, as well as manage the projects from start until completion. Most of his work focused on the dairy industry with some exposure to sugarcane, citrus, stone fruit, nuts and bananas. Rory and his family then decided to make the move over to Australia, with their two little kids in tow, and joined Water Dynamics based in Shepparton, Victoria. They spent just over a year in Shepparton after which Rory decided to broaden his technical horizons and decided to join the dynamic FSA team. Water and irrigation are his key areas of focus but he is always up for a challenge and keen to learn. Rory is currently working on a coal seam gas and catchment sustainability project.
Rory's main personal interest is to keep his family happy and spend as much time with his children as possible while they are still young. He enjoys classic Alfa Romeo cars, mountain biking, fishing and camping and getting into a gym when he can.
